Welcome to Opposite Day
Opposite Day 2 begins with a simple premise that will challenge everything you know about platformer games. In this world, every control input does the exact opposite of what you'd expect. Before you even take your first step, you need to rewire your brain.
Level 1 is designed as a gentle introduction. The platforms are wide, the gaps are forgiving, and there are no time limits or enemies. Use this opportunity to practice until the reversed controls feel natural—you'll need that muscle memory for the challenges ahead.
Understanding Reversed Controls
Here's how controls work in Opposite Day 2:
- Left Arrow / A Key: Moves your character RIGHT
- Right Arrow / D Key: Moves your character LEFT
- Up Arrow / W Key: Makes your character FALL or CROUCH
- Down Arrow / S Key: Makes your character JUMP
The movement reversal is straightforward once you accept it, but the jump/fall reversal is where most new players struggle. When you see a gap, your instinct will be to press UP—resist that urge. Press DOWN to jump.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Step 1: The Spawn Platform
You spawn on a wide platform in the center-left of the level. Before moving toward the exit, turn around! Press RIGHT (to move left) and you'll find the first Blue Cube hidden directly behind your spawn point. Many players miss this on their first playthrough.
Step 2: Moving Forward
Now face the exit by pressing LEFT (to move right). You'll encounter three platforms with small gaps between them. These gaps are designed to be forgiving—even if you mistime your jump, you'll likely still make it. Practice jumping (press DOWN) across each gap.
Step 3: The Vertical Section
After the third platform, you'll see a vertical section with platforms stacked above each other. This is your first lesson in vertical navigation. Remember: DOWN makes you jump UP. Clear each platform carefully, taking your time to land accurately.
Step 4: The Exit Approach
The final stretch is a long platform leading to the exit door. Before entering, look UP—there's a hidden ledge above the exit with the second Blue Cube. You'll need to jump (press DOWN) from a specific spot to reach it.
Collectibles in Level 1
- Blue Cube #1: Behind spawn point (move left at start)
- Blue Cube #2: Above the exit door (requires precise jump)
- Red Cube: Secret platform above spawn (triple jump from elevated area)
Pro Tips for Beginners
- Take Your Time: There's no timer in Level 1. Spend as long as you need getting comfortable.
- Watch Your Hands: Some players find it helpful to physically look at their keyboard while learning the reversed inputs.
- Small Movements: Make small, controlled movements rather than holding down keys continuously.
- Practice Jumping: Find a safe platform and practice jumping in place until it feels natural.
Common Mistakes
- Pressing UP to jump (this will make you crouch or fall)
- Rushing through the level without collecting Blue Cubes
- Not checking behind the spawn point for the first collectible
- Overcorrecting movements and falling off platforms
