The Halfway Point
Congratulations—if you've reached Level 5, you've made it halfway through Opposite Day 2. This level serves as both a celebration of your progress and a preparation for the significantly harder challenges ahead. The developers designed Level 5 as a comprehensive review that combines every mechanic you've learned.
The signature feature of Level 5 is the reversed instruction maze. Signs throughout the maze give you directions, but following them directly leads to dead ends. You must reverse every instruction—a perfect encapsulation of the game's core philosophy.
Key Mechanics Reviewed
- Reversed Controls: Still the foundation of everything
- Moving Platforms: Appear in the timing puzzle section
- Multiple Paths: The maze has several routes to the exit
- Precision Jumping: Required for the final section
- Pattern Recognition: New skill—memorize reversed sequences
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Step 1: The Maze Entrance
Level 5 begins at the entrance of a large maze structure. You'll see your first instruction sign immediately: "GO LEFT". Remember the rule: do the opposite. Press LEFT (which moves you right) and head into the right passage.
Every instruction sign in this maze tells you the wrong direction. Internalize this: whatever the sign says, do the opposite with your reversed controls. "GO UP" means press UP (which makes you fall down).
Step 2: The Timing Puzzle
Midway through the maze, you'll enter a room with moving platforms and a timed gate. This section combines maze navigation with the platform mechanics from Level 2. The gate opens for 4 seconds after you step on a pressure plate, but the plate is across a gap with moving platforms.
Strategy: Wait for the moving platform to come to you. Jump on, ride it across, and jump to the pressure plate. Immediately turn around and race back through the now-open gate before it closes.
Step 3: The Center Hub
The maze converges at a central hub with five exits. Three lead to dead ends (with collectibles), one is the exit, and one leads to the Red Cube. The correct exit is the one that corresponds to reversing all previous instruction signs.
If you've been following: Right, Down, Left, Right—the exit is the bottom-right passage.
Step 4: The Precision Finale
The section between the hub and the exit is a precision platforming challenge reminiscent of Level 4. Small platforms, tight jumps, but with the added complexity of fading platforms that disappear after you land on them. Don't stop moving—jump immediately after landing.
Step 5: The Exit
The final challenge before the exit door is a simple test: three instruction signs appear simultaneously, showing "UP", "LEFT", "RIGHT". The correct sequence (reversed): press UP (fall), then LEFT (go right), then RIGHT (go left) to reach the door.
Collectibles in Level 5
- Blue Cube #1: First dead end path in maze (follow one instruction correctly)
- Blue Cube #2: Above the timing puzzle room (accessible from moving platform)
- Red Cube: Top-left exit from center hub (requires backtracking after main exit)
Preparing for Level 6
Level 5 is your last "normal" level. Starting with Level 6, the game introduces gravity manipulation—everything you know about up and down gets inverted on top of your already-reversed controls. Use any extra time in Level 5 to solidify your mastery of reversed movement.
Recommended preparation: Practice the precision finale section until you can complete it without falling. This muscle memory will help immensely when gravity adds another layer of confusion.
Pro Tips for Level 5
- Trust the Signs (Reversed): Every instruction sign is reliably wrong. Use them as a guide.
- Map the Maze: Consider drawing a map on paper during your first playthrough.
- Checkpoint Locations: There are 2 checkpoints—one at the timing puzzle and one at the center hub.
- Fading Platforms: The finale's fading platforms give you about 1 second. Don't hesitate.
