The Grand Review
Level 9 is Opposite Day 2's comprehensive exam. Every mechanic you've learned across the previous eight levels makes an appearance. Reversed controls? Obviously. Gravity flips from Level 6? Multiple times. Momentum physics from Level 7? Essential. Speed sections from Level 8? You bet.
This level is intentionally designed to throw you off balance. Just when you've adjusted to one mechanic, the next section introduces a different one. The key to Level 9 is mental flexibility—the ability to rapidly switch between different skill sets.
Mechanics Recap
Level 9 features all of these in sequence:
- Section 1: Precision platforming (Level 4 style)
- Section 2: Gravity flip maze (Level 6 style)
- Section 3: Momentum chain jumps (Level 7 style)
- Section 4: Speed gauntlet with QTEs (Level 8 style)
- Section 5: Combined challenge (everything at once)
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
Section 1: Precision Platforming
The level opens with micro-platforms reminiscent of Level 4. The spacing is tighter and platforms are smaller, but the mechanics are identical. Use tap controls, land centered, and don't rush.
New element: Some platforms now have arrows indicating safe directions to exit. A platform with a "→" means you should jump LEFT (to move right). Yes, even the hints are reversed.
Section 2: Multi-Gravity Maze
After the opening platforming, you enter a maze with multiple gravity zones. Unlike Level 6's single-flip approach, Level 9 has overlapping zones that flip gravity in rapid succession. The ceiling becomes the floor, then the LEFT wall becomes the floor, then you're upside-down again.
Strategy: Before entering a gravity zone, identify your "landing surface" and plan your movement. The dizzying multi-flips are manageable if you take them one zone at a time.
Section 3: Momentum Chains
The maze opens into a vast vertical chamber requiring momentum-based jumps from Level 7. You start at the bottom and need to reach the top using fall-and-jump techniques. Bouncy platforms are scattered throughout.
The twist: Some bouncy platforms are inverted due to residual gravity effects from Section 2. Watch for purple-tinted platforms—they bounce you downward instead of up.
Section 4: Speed Gauntlet
Once you reach the top of the momentum chamber, the level transitions to an auto-scrolling speed section. This combines Level 8's intensity with the gravity-flipped state from Section 3. The screen scrolls while gravity may or may not be inverted.
Mental trick: Focus on relative movement, not absolute. "Forward" is always the direction the screen scrolls. "Jump" is always away from your current floor, whether that's the ground or ceiling.
Section 5: The Combination Room
The final section is a single large room requiring all skills simultaneously. Moving platforms with countdown timers, gravity zones that activate based on your position, momentum-dependent jumps across wide gaps, and a time limit ticking down.
Route recommendation: Left side first (collect Blue Cube), then up through gravity zone, momentum jump across the center gap, finally right to exit while dodging countdown platforms.
Collectibles in Level 9
- Blue Cube #1: Start of multi-mechanic section (left side of combination room)
- Blue Cube #2: Between gravity zones in Section 2 (requires precise timing)
- Blue Cube #3: Secret room accessed via wall clip in speed gauntlet
- Red Cube: Hidden in inverted section—requires completing Section 3 upside-down
Pro Tips for Level 9
- Mental Reset: Between each section, take a breath and mentally reset. Don't carry panic forward.
- Use Checkpoints: Level 9 has generous checkpoints between sections. Use them to practice each part.
- Watch for Visual Cues: Platform colors and arrow hints are more important here than in any other level.
- Embrace Deaths: Level 9 is meant to be hard. Each death teaches you something. Don't get frustrated.
- Speedrun Tech: The Gravity Cancel technique can skip Section 2 entirely, but it's extremely difficult.
